What began as a small gathering of friends has grown into a much loved annual weekend bringing people together from across the UK for an unforgettable atmosphere filled with great food, music, dancing and connection.

The Story Behind Black Joy Weekend

Black Joy Weekend first began in 2017 when one of the organisers moved from London to Huddersfield. Each August Bank Holiday weekend, friends would travel north for a relaxed get away together.

Originally hosted in a back garden with local friends joining in, the gatherings quickly became something much bigger. By 2022 and 2023, more than 40 people were attending the annual weekend celebrations.

As the event continued to grow, the team behind Black Joy Events & Entertainment decided it was time to create an even better experience with a dedicated venue that could bring everything together properly with great food, entertainment and space to celebrate.

Today, Black Joy Weekend continues to grow while keeping the same welcoming spirit it was founded on.

What Does “Black Joy” Mean?

Black Joy is not about race or ethnicity.

The meaning centres around happiness, freedom, healing, positivity and finding joy through shared experiences with others.

The concept reflects triumph over adversity and creating spaces where people can relax, connect and celebrate together regardless of background.

At its heart, Black Joy Weekend is about creating an uplifting atmosphere where everybody feels welcome.

Saturday Formal Dinner & Disco

An evening of celebration, music and atmosphere awaits.

Arrive from 7:00pm before enjoying a delicious 3 course meal served from 7:30pm, followed by a lively disco and dancing through until midnight.
