Our Commitment to Sustainability
Since 2020, we have been dedicated to making our business more sustainable. Partnering with Green Tourism provided us with valuable insights and tools to reduce our environmental impact. With an investment of over half a million pounds in the last two years, we have made significant strides in our sustainability journey.
We are proud to have been awarded the Green Tourism Silver Award, recognising our commitment to sustainability. We are now pushing for a Gold award with Green Tourism, further demonstrating our dedication to environmental excellence.
Our goal is to achieve net zero, and we are continually investing in new technologies to get there. Every day, we are one step closer to a more sustainable future.
Here are some of the key initiatives we’ve implemented:
- Solar Panels: Installed at our Cedar Court Bradford and Cedar Court Wakefield sites, with plans to expand to other hotels.
- EV Charging Stations: Our Bradford site is now live, with installations planned for other locations.
- LED Lighting: All lighting has been upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs.
- Energy Monitoring: Partnered with an energy monitoring company to track utility usage hourly, ensuring equipment is not running unnecessarily.
- Window Replacements: Completed at our Bradford site and underway at Wakefield.
- Waste Management: For the third consecutive year, we have achieved zero waste to landfill, thanks to our waste management partner.
- Local Sourcing: We are strengthening relationships with local suppliers to offer locally sourced products on our menus.
- Reducing Single-Use Plastics: Eliminated miniature soaps, plastic pens, coasters, straws, and food packaging. Reduced paper usage by two-thirds by transitioning to digital processes.
- Water Production: Established our own water production facility to bottle water for guests, reducing bottle waste and delivery miles.
- Eco-Friendly Cleaning: Installed a Toucan Eco facility, producing environmentally friendly cleaning products and reducing our use of traditional cleaning chemicals by 60%.

Group Environmental Policy
We believe that as a prominent local company employing circa 300 employees across the group and operating four substantial sites, we have a responsibility to implement robust strategies and actions to minimise both our short and long-term impact on the environment, to continually search for new ways of working which will further reduce energy consumption across the group, reduce our waste and landfill requirements and increase our recycling opportunities. We aim to keep abreast of new technology, which will assist us in further reducing our energy consumption and implementing the latest equipment and technology at our disposal where commercially viable.
We commit that all future product developments will include light and energy-saving devices where commercially viable.

Group Corporate & Social Responsibility Policy
We aim to be at the heart of our local communities through our varied services and facilities, including weddings and special events, funerals, health clubs, family events and food and beverage offerings.
We aim to be an employer of choice who recruit, induct and train their workforce to a high level; who supply safe, clean and enjoyable working environments for all members of staff and who offer people in all areas of the business rewarding and challenging employment and career opportunities.
We employ an equal opportunities recruitment policy.
We want to actively work with and become an integral part of our local communities, and with this in mind, our group and hotel objectives include the following:
Annual nomination of a local group charity with whom we will actively work throughout the year and support in terms of facilities, services and fund-raising activities.
Annual nomination of local individual hotel charities with whom the hotels will actively work throughout the year and support providing facilities, services and fund-raising activities.
Work with our local schools and colleges to provide work experience opportunities, support recruitment and interview training days, and welcome school visits to the hotels to introduce the world of hospitality as a potential career.
Procurement Policy
Cedar Court Hotels undertakes the responsible management of its value chain as a sustainability priority, starting with our team to our suppliers and guests.
Our suppliers constitute a key stakeholder group for the company and as part of its pathway to a net-zero carbon future by 2050, in support of our efforts to integrate and promote responsible practices and apply sustainability criteria in all areas of the supply chain processes:
Green Energy sourcing on products and services
Net Zero focused sourcing initiatives
Local sourcing initiatives to reduce delivery miles
Eliminate single-use plastics
Reduce, Reuse, Replace, Recycle
Cedar Court Hotels works to reduce, reuse, replace and recycle and share best practices in this area. We work with suppliers to reduce waste and increase recycling. Other key waste management priorities include food waste management and eliminating single-use plastics wherever possible.
Responsible sourcing
Much of a hotel’s environmental impact is generated through sourced products, services and activities. Cedar Court Hotels partners with like-minded suppliers committed to doing business responsibly, providing integrated projects and solutions for our hotels.
Suppliers must respect the Supplier Code of Conduct, with all applicable laws and regulations and request the same from their supply chain, including third-party labour agencies.
Energy efficiency
It is estimated that 30% of the energy used by buildings is wasted. A key goal is to reduce our overall energy consumption significantly. There are several ways to do this, such as investing in energy-saving technologies and tools, developing environment-friendly building designs, collaborating with owners and investors to invest in sustainability measures, and engaging and educating team members.
Carbon reduction
Cedar Court Hotels is committed to science-based net zero by 2050. We actively strive to reduce our carbon footprint by finding energy-efficient solutions and increasingly using renewable energy sources. We are working to implement renewable electricity solutions that are carefully designed to achieve the most significant carbon reduction impact. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint by pursuing a renewable energy sourcing strategy to increase the amount of renewable electricity we purchase and produce.
Carbon neutral meetings
Cedar Court Hotels is committed to hosting Carbon neutral meetings to help our clients be as green as possible, reduce plastic usage, implement IT initiatives to reduce paper, reduce food waste, and promote public transport links to our venues.
